Install Quartz Probe
- Open the signed Quartz Probe disk image.
- Drag Quartz Probe to the Applications folder.
- Launch it from Applications and complete the short onboarding flow.
Quartz Probe requires macOS 14 or later. Release downloads are signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple before publication.
Start a diagnosis
Paste a domain, IP address, URL, host and port, certificate, HAR file, JWT, timestamp, or Base64 value. Smart Paste recognizes the input and proposes the relevant workspace.
Keyboard workflow
Press ⌘K to open the command palette from anywhere. Search for a workspace, recent target, or saved diagnostic, then press Return to open it.
Keep context
DNS, SSL, HTTP, and route workspaces preserve compatible targets when you switch between them, so you do not have to re-enter the same host.
Permissions and network access
Quartz Probe performs diagnostics directly from your Mac. Some features require normal outbound network access. Local-port process ownership can require macOS authorization depending on the process being inspected.
Notifications are optional and are used for certificate/domain reminders, public IP changes, and diagnostics you explicitly choose to monitor.
Results, history, and export
Result headers summarize status, timing, warnings, and recommended actions. Raw records, response headers, certificate fields, hops, or JSON remain available below the conclusion.
Completed checks appear in History. Pro removes the seven-day limit, enables full-text search and iCloud Sync, and exports PDF, CSV, or JSON reports.
Trial and license
New installs include a 14-day full-featured Pro trial. The launch license is a one-time $29 purchase and permanently unlocks Quartz Probe 1.x, including all 1.x updates.
To activate, open Quartz Probe settings, choose License, paste the key from your purchase email, and select Activate. Deactivation returns that device seat to your license.
Payment and license delivery will use Dodo Payments as merchant of record when public sales open. Quartz never asks you to email a payment card number.
Troubleshooting
A query times out
Try the same target with a different resolver or transport. A corporate VPN, firewall, proxy, captive portal, or filtered network can block ICMP, DNS, TLS, or HTTP independently.
Ping works but HTTP does not
Reachability only proves a route to the host. Inspect DNS, TLS, redirects, proxy settings, and the destination port separately.
Traceroute shows asterisks
Many routers intentionally ignore or rate-limit traceroute probes. A missing intermediate reply is not automatically packet loss at the destination.
The app closes unexpectedly
Reopen Quartz Probe, note the workspace and target that were active, and send the macOS version plus the crash time to support. Never include secrets, private API headers, or client-certificate passwords.
Privacy
Diagnostic targets and results stay on your Mac by default. Selected resolvers and endpoints necessarily receive the requests you ask Quartz Probe to make. Public-IP, GeoIP, RDAP, speed-test, update, licensing, and optional iCloud services are contacted only for their respective features.
